In Memoriam: Agnes Sopko

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Tom Sopko with the passing of his mother, Agnes.
 
Obituary
Agnes U. Sopko (nee Uhall) age 97, beloved wife of the late Michael; loving mother of Thomas (wife Helen) and Martha “Marty” (Bunnell) McCallum (husband Rich); devoted grandmother of Thomas, Jr. (wife Samantha), Christopher, James Bunnell (wife Krissi), Laura Calevski (husband David), Elicia Lipinski (fiancé Robert Bates) and great-grandmother of Clayton, Thomas III, James IV, Eloise, Evelyn and Marley; cherished daughter of the late Michael and Anna (nee Vassel) Uhall; dearest sister of the late Mary Kavanshansky, John and Michael Uhall, Helen Crapo, Margaret Duda, and George Uhall; dear aunt and great-aunt of many.
 
Agnes was born on July 15, 1920 in Grindstone Pennsylvania and passed away on December 8, 2017. She was a parishioner of St. Clare Catholic Church, belonged to Lyndhurst Civic Club and Lyndhurst Senior Group. Agnes graduated from Garfield High School in Akron and proudly worked as a secretary. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking in her free time. Agnes loved listening to Polka, Big Band music and loved to dance. In her free time Agnes greatly enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, bingo and all kinds of games. Agnes was kind, loving, caring, sweet and selfless. She always had a positive attitude and never complained. Agnes loved the holidays and caring for others. She will be dearly missed by all.

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, December 15, 2017 at St. Clare Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. Burial following at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In Memoriam: Ed Baitt

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ed Baitt. Ed and his wife Carol have been property owners since 1967. Ed was extremely involved in the community serving on the RRA Board for many years and many more with the Fishing Club. He was instrumental in getting the dredging program up and running as well as getting the maintenance garage and new RRA office off of the ground. The employees are thankful to Ed for always being someone who you could talk to if you had a problem and for helping them get health insurance. We will forever miss that twinkle in his eyes.

Obituary

Services for Edward C. Baitt, 82, of Roaming Shores, OH, will be Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Servants of Mary 6601 Ireland Rd. Windsor, OH, 44099. Friends and Family will be received from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Saturday before the service.

Ed was born on October 18, 1935, in Euclid, OH, and passed away on November 8, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. Ed was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and retired from City of Euclid. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus St. Mary Council #5589, President of Rome Rock Association, Member and President of the Fishing Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing the button box, and fishing.

He was a former custodian, Athletic Director and coach at St. Christine’s in Euclid. He was coach of Richmond Heights Football Team, and coach of many many youth basketball, football, and baseball teams. He was a High School Football official.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who is survived by: loving wife of 61 years Carol aka Bert (Dobray) Baitt; sons Edward (Barb), James (Lisa), Michael (Lisa); sister Joann Smith; Grandchildren: Eddie (Emily), Nicole, Joey, Laura (Brandon), Brittany, Joshua, Julia, Michael.

Preceded in death by: daughter Theresa; parents Edward and Mary (Skerl) Baitt; sisters Marie Chesnic, Majorie Deason; in-laws Michelle Aster, Tom Dobray.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed’s memory to the family to be donated to some of Ed’s favorite charities.

Found: Inflatable Boat

This inflatable boat was found in a member’s cove. There was no lot number affixed. The owner can contact Terry Gilbert at tgilbert4@roadrunner.com.

Please remember that ALL watercraft on Lake Roaming Rock needs to be properly identified. Lot numbers need to be on all watercraft in 3″ numbers of contrasting colors.

In Memoriam: Nick Pahys, Jr.

Mr. Pahys was a longtime resident of the Shores. Our condolences to the family.

Nick Pahys, Jr., age 84, Howard Rd., Williamsfield Twp., died Tuesday evening at the St. Joseph Emergency & Diagnostic Center in Andover.

He was born May 18, 1933 in Cleveland, the son of Nick & Georgia (Zika) Pahys, Sr. and has resided in Ashtabula Co. the past 40 years, coming from Chesterland. Mr. Pahys was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was married to Joanne Young on September 22, 1956 in Cleveland.
Mr. Pahys was a 1988 retiree from the Western & Southern Life Insurance Co. and was currently curator of the Presidential Museum in Williamsfield Twp. He was the Ambassador of Grand Eminence for the IBC and enjoyed playing pinochle.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne, two grandchildren and a sister, Alice Ramser of Avon Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Nicholas, III & Mark, a daughter, Lecie Cargould, brothers, Tom & John Pahys and sisters, Eleftrea Pahys, Helen Kirchner & Zaferia Kloos.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with Deacon Clarence Arnold of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Union Cemetery with military honors offered by Geneva Post #6846 of the VFW.

2017 Roaming Shores Polar Bear Club Breakfast With Santa

Wow the Holidays are approaching fast! That means it is time for Breakfast With Santa, hosted by the Polar Bear Club.  This year’s event will be held on Saturday, December 9th from 9 am to 11 am at the Club House, located at Beach 1.  We would like to invite you to come have breakfast with Santa and tell him what you want for Christmas!  Every child will receive a gift from Santa when he arrives at 9:30 am.  You can also join in our other Christmas activities including decorating an ornament to take home.  The party is free to all children and grandchildren of Roaming Shores residents, age 12 and under.

We will be serving pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and mixed fruit.  We will also have an assortment of beverages.

US 6 Bridge Update


According to ODOT, the bridge will FINALLY open on Saturday, October 14th!

Real Estate Property Tax Meeting


The Ashtabula County Auditor, Roger Corlett will be present to explain real estate property taxes to the Association Members.  The meeting will be at the Clubhouse on October 21, 2017, at 10:00am to 11:30.  Mr. Corlett  and Dennis DeCamillo, Deputy Auditor – Real Estate Manager, will show what real estate property tax rates are around the local Village and Townships.  How property taxes are calculated.  How they are collected.  How they are allocated.  And how Road Taxes, if any, are assessed.  This will be followed by a short Q & A and light refreshments.  Remember that this is not a meeting to discuss real estate taxes on your individual property; this is a meeting for a general understanding of real estate property taxes.

Although it is not necessary to RSVP, for planning purposes it would be helpful.

Halloween in Roaming Shores 2017


Trick-or-Treating in Roaming Shores will be on Saturday, October 28th from 5pm-7pm.

After trick-or-treating, come join us at the Clubhouse for a Halloween Happening! We will be playing a movie and will have treats and refreshments. The Roaming Shores Police Department will be grilling up hotdogs!

This is a free event for all of the little ghosts and goblins in the Shores (their family, too!)

If you would like to donate candy for treat bags, please drop them off at either the RRA or RSV offices. Thank you!

Clam Bake to be held Oct 14th

The Roaming Shores Fishing Club will be having a Clam Bake and Chicken Roast on Saturday, October 14th from 3pm – 5pm at the Clubhouse.

Tickets are $25 and includes: 12 Steamed Clams, 1/2 Chicken, Bread, Coleslaw, Yam or White Potato Baked, Corn on the Cob, Clam Chowder, and Cake for Dessert. Extra clams can be purchased for $10/dozen. There is also an option for a Chicken Dinner Only for $18.

Proceeds of the Lake Roaming Rock Annual Clam Bake & Chicken Dinner will be utilized to fund Fishing Club Tournament awards and the cost of lake “fish stocking activities” planned for this Fall and next year. Your participation and support are greatly appreciated!

Upcoming Educational Courses

CPR Course

South Central Ambulance District “SCAD” will be holding a CPR course at their station on Sept 26th and 28th at 6pm. The cost of the course will be $15 and will include instruction in CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and AEDs. SCAD also hosts first aid classes. There is no class currently scheduled for September, but there is a discount if you sign up for both classes. Call 563-5619 to sign up.

Boater Education Course

Take the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators approved OBEC class, and earn your Ohio boating certificate. The certificate which never expires, is required for anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 in order to operate any boat or personal watercraft over 10 horsepower in the state of Ohio. The course last just 8 hours including the test, ad is full of useful information for anyone who owns any type of watercraft or just enjoys being on the water.

ASHI Child and Babysitting Safety Certification Class

Come to the YMCA to learn to be a safe and successful babysitter. This class is designed to focus on supervising, caring for, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. The program provides fundamental information in the business of babysitting, age appropriate play, safety and injury prevention and responding properly to ill or injured children or infants. The class will allow you to earn you American Safety and Health Institute Babysitting Certification valid for 2 years. Students will receive a babysitting booklet. Bring a baby doll and pack a bag lunch. Class time may be slightly less than listed below depending on number of students enrolled.
