4/4/18 Wind Storm

It’s a very windy day today in Roaming Shores and across our region. As expected, there is currently a power outage affecting the west side of the lake due to a downed power line on Rome Rock Creek Rd near Callender. Please avoid the area. It has been reported that the police have already responded to the area for safety. For detailed updates on power outages, please check the First Energy Storm Center.

Given the nature of this wind storm, other outages and downed trees can be expected. Report power outages to First Energy 888-LIGHTSS (888-544-4877). If a tree falls into the road in Roaming Shores, please contact the Association at (440) 563-3170.

‘Do Not Knock’ Registry

Tired of Door-to-Door Solicitors?
Sign up for Roaming Shores Do Not Knock Registry

There has been a growing number of confusing and misleading energy offers affecting our community’s residents.  To prevent this, as well as other for-profit solicitors from interrupting you at home, The Village of Roaming Shores has partnered with the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) to provide you with the Do Not Knock Registry.

How does the Do Not Knock Registry work? Residents can sign up for the Do Not Knock Registry online at blocktheknock.com or by sending in a postage-paid Do Not Knock Registry postcard.  Postcards are available at the Village Hall.  Once you’ve signed up, your address will be listed on the registry and you will receive a Do Not Knock window cling to post near your front door.

When a for-profit solicitor comes to The Village of Roaming Shores to sell door-to-door, they must first request a permit from the community.  At that time, we will provide them with the Do Not Knock Registry listing addresses that they are not allowed to go to.

What happens if a solicitor still knocks on your door? Ask what organization they are with.  Non-profit organizations like public schools or churches are not regulated by the same rules as for-profit solicitors.  The Do Not Knock Registry does not apply to non-profit organizations.

If you feel the solicitor is in violation of the Do Not Knock Registry, contact Roaming Shores Police or the Village Hall to report them.

For more information about the Do Not Knock Registry provided by The Village of Roaming Shores and NOPEC, go to blocktheknock.com.

In the Village of Roaming Shores, solicitors are required to have a permit.

Power Outage in Roaming Shores

Update: All power has been restored.

North East Ohio was hit by a winter storm last night that brought with it high winds and heavy snow. As a result, several neighborhoods in the Shores experienced power outages and brown outs. As of this writing, there are a few homes without power. For current outage information, check the First Energy Storm Center.

If you need a place to warm up, the Clubhouse, Village Hall and RRA Office are open and have power.

2018 Polar Bear Plunge – March 10th

The Roaming Shores Polar Bear Plunge is still the only Polar Bear Plunge in the county! This year’s Polar Bear Plunge event will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Roaming Shores Clubhouse/Main Beach. The actual plunge will begin at 3pm.

The Polar Bear Plunge will include brave students from Jefferson, Grand Valley and Pymatuning Valley Schools, as well as wild and crazy local area residents. Last year’s Polar Bear Plunge raised $7,211.00 with 94 Jumpers. We need your help to make this year’s event even more successful.

This year, the money we raise will be used to benefit the Jeff Meddock Memorial Scholarship, Jefferson Area Local Schools Academic Boosters, Grand Valley Schools student programs in memory of Emily Plickert, and the Roaming Shores Breakfast with Santa event.

Grand Valley Schools strives to improve student programs in the memory of Emily Plickert, a beloved cheerleader, classmate and friend to all.

Jeff Meddock was a resident of Roaming Shores and the beloved principal of Pymatuning Valley High School. He died unexpectedly and the money we raise helps to continue his pursuit to educate.

Both Jeff and Emily were very proud active members of The Polar Bear Club.

The Jefferson Academic Boosters strives to reward students for academic success. Also, a portion of the money we raise is also used to host the Roaming Shores Breakfast with Santa event.

If you are interested in taking the Plunge, a minimum of $55 must be raised. There is no age limit (minors will need parental consent). Each courageous person that takes that icy Plunge will get a t-shirt as a thank you for participating.

There will be a DJ and a 50/50 raffle! We’ll be serving hot dogs, chili, popcorn, chips and soda. Additional merchandise will be available for sale. You can purchase items before and/or after the plunge. First come, first serve.
