In Memoriam: Al Russo
Adolph ‘Al’ Anthony Russo, age 90, of Cleveland & Bradenton FL, third son of Adolph & Rose Russo; brother of Salvatore & Ignatius (all preceding him in death), beloved husband of Dolores ‘Dee’ Russo for 63 years ; devoted father of David, Bob & Gary; second Dad to Ann & Lisa; loving PopPop & Grandpa to Matthew, Elisabeth (Chris), Christopher & Michael (Jen). Additional survivors include many dear & special cousins, nephews, nieces & friends. Al was a graduate of both Shaker Heights High School & Bowling Green State University. When Al wasn’t working with Pepperidge Farm or selling homes, you’d probably find him wandering yard sales, woodworking, at the lake or most likely on the golf course! Here’s to successive holes in one! Cremation was chosen with a private ceremony already held. Dad, you blessed us for so many wonderful years making lasting memories. In Memoriam: Mike Cox
Our thoughts and prayers are with Veronica Cox who lost her husband Mike this passed week. Mike and Veronica are former residents who were very involved in the community.
Lt. Col. Michael David Cox U.S.A.F. Ret.
FORT WORTH–Lt.Col. Michael David Cox U.S.A.F. Ret., was called home on September 4, 2017, after a brave fight against a sudden illness.
Interment: Mike will be laid to rest among the other heroes of our nation in the Arlington National Cemetery.
Mike was born in the Bronx, NY, on May 3, 1940. He was the son of Maurice and Mildred Cox. He grew up on Long Island NY, and graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Alleghany NY. The University’s motto “Becoming Extraordinary “would describe him throughout his life. Upon graduation Mike entered the service of his nation, receiving a commission in the U.S.A.F. He served several tours of duty in Vietnam, and was awarded many decorations, among which was the Bronze Star and The Presidential Unit Citation. After a distinguished military career, Mike worked for McConnell Douglas, and Boeing, before retiring completely in the mid 90’s. Mike was a storehouse of colorful stories and reminiscences of his time in the military. He was generous and always quick to offer any assistance he could provide. He enjoyed traveling in his later years, especially to the reunions of his old squadrons. He was active in the Military Officers Association of America, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He joined his second family in Ohio, and was very highly regarded in his community. As he grew older, he and his wife would travel to Myrtle Beach, SC for the winter. As usual, Mike became a highly regarded member of the retirement community there as well. Mike recently relocated to Texas, and was adapting well, when he became ill.
Survivors: Son, David and daughter, Kaycee of whom he was very proud, always speaking of their achievements; brothers; Maurice, Charlie, Dennis, and Steve; wife Veronica; step daughters, Felicia, Cristina, and Doris Amelia; grandchildren; Vanessa, Tiffany, and Nathan; and many friends.
In Memoriam: Donna Plesnicar
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Donna Plesnicar. Mrs. Plesnicar and her husband Tony have been property owners for over 30 years. Their daughter and grandson are also residents. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
Donna Mae (Graham) Plesnicar, 81 of Concord formerly of Euclid died Friday August 25, 2017 at Tri-Point Medical Center, Concord. She was born April 11, 1936 in Cleveland.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Tony J. Plesnicar Sr.; children, Nancy (Charles) Pirnat, Joseph (Susan) Plesnicar; grandchildren, Charles (Kim) Pirnat, Jaclyn (Michael) Crissinger, Nicole (David) Stewart, Lindsay (Jason) Spoth, Michael, Joseph, Becky, Laura, Victor Plesnicar, Anthony (Kari) Plesnicar III; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Andrew, Corey, Colton, Claire, Jillian, Adiya, Ziva, Ethan, Devon; Siblings, Jacqueline Reiss, Catherine (Joseph) Schlegel and Tom Spellman.
Preceding Donna in death is her son, Anthony J. Plesnicar Jr.; father, John Graham and Mother, Josephine Glodenis.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm, Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the funeral home.

Hands UP, Don’t Run Me Over, I’m In The Water!

The title of this article is to draw your attention to what you should preach to your family and guests when they are in the water after being towed. As soon possible, they should put their hands up, over their heads, to draw attention of their presence to other boaters. If they have just fallen out of their skis, hold the ski or skis up vertically. Wave their arms so show where they are, not necessarily for you, but to any other boaters coming your way. One human head bobbing in the water is difficult to see, especially when there is a choppy surface. AND, get that flag up ASAP!
Too many people are still not using the flag correctly. I still see boats with what looks as though there is a suction cup sticking the flag to the windshield. Simple rule, PUT THE FLAG UP WHEN SOMEONE IS IN THE WATER. This doesn’t mean that there are kids in the water, but they are ON A TUBE. It doesn’t mean that someone is up ON a wakeboard. Wait till they fall off into the lake, then put up the flag.
The Boat Patrol asked me to inform everyone to mark or paint your lot number on all your water toys, floats, skis, paddle boards, paddles, tubes, trampolines, and anything else that you want back if it gets lost. The Patrol finds things floating in the lake and wants a way to get the equipment back to the owners.
Another topic that the Boat Patrol brought up was that the people letting youngsters use their jetskis are NOT following State laws of age of operation. It appears that there are a bunch of un-informed people that think that if they are 21 or over, they can drive anything on water. What do we have to do to tell you that if you were born on or after Jan 1, 1982 you need a STATE LICENSE to operate a water craft? And you must be 16 with a license to drive a jetski. It’s stated in the rules you are given with your boat tags. Then you give your signature that you have read and will follow the rules. How about it? I’m going to request that ODNR come to our lake and specifically check licenses on ALL jet drivers. No wonder we see absurd stunts from the jet people.
I’m beginning to think that maybe we should make it imperative that boat owners take mandatory 2 hour course every 3 or 4 years before getting a tag. Or how about taking a 10 question test before you get a tag, get 2 wrong, no tag? There has to be something done differently until we can get uniformed police to pass out tickets for not following the laws and rules. I’ll be bringing up this FORCED education to the Board soon.
I can’t close without mentioning the 75 foot no-wake zone, try and picture 4 lengths of your boat from the shoreline, this will be close enough. There must some sort of magnetic force that lures people in to around 40 feet or so!

End of the Season – Labor Day
Please take note that the last day of the season for the Pools and Concession Stand will be Labor Day, September 4th.
In order to sell off its inventory, the Concession Stand will be holding a Sale.
Beginning on Saturday, Sept 2nd all items (minus the Shores Combo) will be $1.00 and below. On Sunday, $.75 and below. On Monday, $.50 and below. While supplies last! There will be a limit of 3 ice creams per customer.

Age 86, an accomplished artist and avid Browns fan was known for his love of water, sports cars and family. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol (nee Duskey); loving father of Michael (Christine) and Constance Krehel (Joseph); dear step-father of Mark Duskey (Lois), Lynn Gagnon (Roland), Cris Gaskins (Nick), and the late Jill Duskey; cherished grandfather of 15; dearest brother of Thomas (Nancy) and the late Robert (Betty); former husband of Athina. 4th of July Weekend Recap
Independence Day Weekend is always a busy time here in the Shores. Despite the 50th last year being the biggest ever, this year was no exception.
The Festivities began on Saturday, July 1st with helicopter rides over the lake provided by Stellar Copters. Captain John Marstellar provided some of the best views of the lake throughout the day to many brave passengers, young and old. Here’s some video in case you would either like to relive the moment, or didn’t have the opportunity.
Also on Saturday was the Annual Jason Scribben Memorial Volleyball Tournament. The game is played in the memory of Jason P. Scribben, a senior at Grand Valley High School and died in a boating accident on Lake Roaming Rock on July 4th, 1998. The winners this year (once again) were the Ruebel family.
The day capped off with a bang… literally… with the Annual Roaming Shores Fireworks Display. I know we say this every year, but this show was truly one of the best ever! Thank you to everyone who contributed towards making the fireworks show a reality that keeps getting better year after year!
The following morning was the 2nd Annual ‘Givin’ it a Tri in the Shores’, a fun Mini Triathlon where participants completed a 160yd swim in the lake, a 5.75mi bike ride, and a 2 mile run.

This year there were 50 participants. 16 males and 18 females competed as individuals, along with 16 relay team members making up 6 teams.

2017 Mini Tri Information – July 2nd
The Mini Triathlon that was hosted for the 1st time last year for the 50th Anniversary will be back this year! The event, Givin’ it a Tri in the Shores, is now hosted by the STARS Club.
The Race will be held on Sunday, July 2nd. Registration begins at 7am, Race Time is 8am. Registration info below.
This is a family friendly event. The race can be completed as an individual or as a Relay Team of 2 to 3.
Events: The Mini Tri will begin at Beach 1 with a 160 yard swim. From there, a 5.75 mile bike ride through Roaming Shores streets and the Greenway Trail. The final leg will be a 2 mile run. All measurements are approximate. It will all begin and end at the Clubhouse. Course Map (Google Maps) or PDF Course Map.
Disclaimer: In the event of environmental conditions on race day, the swim portion of the race may be eliminated. The race would then be a duathlon (Run, Bike, Run). Race will be held rain or shine.
Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Individual Male and Female participants and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Team.

Swim Lessons Recap
Over 30 children participated in the free swim lessons that were provided by the STARS Club last week. The students were lead by instructor Paul Pero with help of Leeann Moses, Jen Addair, as well as a few parents. As the week progressed, the students became more comfortable in the water, learned basic strokes, and had a lot of fun, too!
Plans for swimming lessons next year are already in the works.

US 6 Bridge Over Lake to Close
Updated: Beginning on Monday, June 26th the bridge on US 6 that goes over the beginning of the lake/rock creek will be closed for approximately 75 days for repairs.
