Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Maralyn Brommer. Maralyn and her husband Roy were residents of the Shores for many years. Maralyn served on Village Council. Her husband Roy served on both the RRA Board of Directors and the RSV Village Council.

Maralyn J. Brommer, age 75 of Painesville Twp, passed away August 4, 2018 at her residence. She was born May 22, 1943 in Cleveland.

Maralyn Brommer had been a part owner of Roys Auto Recycling in Jefferson, OH for 22 years. She also was an avid reader.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years Roy L. Brommer; son Chuck R. Brommer; grandson Garrett Brommer and sister Karen (Nick) Psathas. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Jane Miller.

A private family burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland, OH.

The Shores (predominately the North end) of the lake is currently experiencing an outage affecting power, internet, and phone service. The estimated time for power restoration is 1pm 7/13/2018.

Susan and her husband Darryl have lived in the Shores for many years. Our condolences go out to Susan’s family and friends.

Susan Marie True (Bostwick), 71, of Ravenna OH passed away peacefully the evening of Tuesday, July 10th, 2018. She was surrounded by her most ardent supporters and surviving family members; her husband, Darryl True; her eldest son, Trent True with wife Shannon True; and youngest son, Daren True and his wife Christina True.

She was a vibrant woman who threw her all into everything she did for those she cared about. She worked for many years at the Berea General Electric plant before leaving the workforce. In years past, you could have run into her chaperoning trips for Daren’s chess club, steel drum band, or cheering from the stands for the marching band he directed. She embraced her daughter-in-laws as her own girls and was always game for a spa day. She was an avid golfer with long time friend Barb Miller and anyone who would go with her, always smirking when the guys at the shop would overestimate her handicap. Her love of the outdoors lead her to The Kent Garden Club, where for many years she was a champion for helping set up Project Green, a program to educate disabled children to learn about and grow their own plants by working with the club and local schools.

Many of her favorite memories were from attending theater shows, spending time with her now departed dogs, Bear and Parker, and boating on the lake with her husband and family friends.

Per her wishes she will be cremated and returned to those places she held most dear. A Celebration Of Life will be hosted by the family on Weds. July 18, from 5-9pm, with a service to begin at 6:30pm at the Ode to Joy Center, 480 Ravenna Rd., Streetsboro, OH 44240. Casual clothes and comfortable shoes are encouraged. The bridge on RT 45 in Rock Creek is officially closed now until approximately early August. The official detour is US 6 to SR 534 to SR 307.

Alternatively, you can take Footville-Richmond west to Windsor-Mechanicsville Rd south, then take Callender Rd back east (Shaffer Rd is reportedly too rough of a road for some). If you’re going to Ashtabula, your best bet is to take US 6 east to RT 11 north.

If you’re going RT 45 south from the direction of I-90, the road is open to Pasta Oven. If you’re heading north on RT 45 from US 6, the road is open to Cantini’s/Family Dollar.

The sidewalk over the bridge is open to foot traffic.

Or maybe our friends and neighbors are following the rules and laws of the lake, or I just didn’t observe long enough. Hope springs eternal! Now nothing in this world is perfect so let me tell you about a few of the antics that I did see. I saw a two person jet-ski pulling a tube, this is already a bad start. You must have enough “seats” to carry ALL persons involved in the activity. So, a driver, an observer and ONE person in the tube is legal in the State of Ohio on a three person ski. No such luck, there were two people on the tube. This would be four people involved on a two person ski! Appears to be some bad math, total ignorance of the law, bad judgement or they just don’t care. I think they were youngsters so what the heck are the parents thinking? What would happen if the tube blows? Who is going to save who?

On 6/20/18 at 21:15 I saw a bass boat, with some sort of white spotlight flying down the lake, heading north. This was really disappointing because I thought the bass boat pilots were educated in ALL the rules and laws and should darn well know that when it’s dark, it’s probably after sunset. So besides breaking the law, this jock had a nice bright white light to blind anyone coming the other way. A double dose of dumb!

Another thing that was noted by a neighbor was that a paddle board Captain was cruising after dark without any sort of light on the board. The law states that you must have a PFD, either being worn or strapped to the board and a “lighted torch”, if used after sunset. This means some sort of flashlight or battery lantern, strange language, but you get the idea.

Just a reminder about pulling beach floats behind a paddle powered craft, it would be the safest move to stay in the coves and DO NOT do this at night. The State still has not made an official rule for this activity, but I’m quite sure they will.
