WinterFest 2017

The STARS Club will be hosting its first event, WinterFest! Please note that our original date and location has changed.

Please join us Saturday, February 25th from 1pm – 4pm at the Clubhouse.

We’re planning on showing movies with hot chocolate, hotdogs, popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones and more!

We also plan on having several different games to play, winter crafts to create, and lessons in some snow sports. We’ll even make it feel like winter with some sand sledding. It may not be “wintery”, but we’ll still have a lot of fun!

If you’re planning on attending, please take this short survey so that we can plan on having adequate supplies for our crafts and snow sports lessons.

See your there!

WinterFest Postponed

Temperatures are projected to be near 60 degrees Saturday. This, coupled with only a dusting of snow, WinterFest has been postponed until Saturday, February 25th 1pm – 4pm. As 50 degree temperatures are predicted to last into next week, the STARS Club is working on an alternate plan inside the Clubhouse in case the 25th is also not a wintery day.

The STARS Club will be meeting this evening (Feb 15th) at 6pm in the Clubhouse to discuss these plans. All are welcomed to attend!

2017 Polar Bear Plunge

The Roaming Shores Polar Bear Plunge is now the only Polar Bear Plunge in the county! This year’s Polar Bear Plunge event will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Roaming Shores Clubhouse/Main Beach. The actual plunge will begin at 3pm.

The Polar Bear Plunge will include brave students from Jefferson, Grand Valley and Pymatuning Valley Schools, as well as wild and crazy local area residents. Last year’s event was a huge success as we raised $11,000 and had over 130 plungers. We need your help to make this year’s event even more successful.

This year, the money we raise will be used to benefit the Jeff Meddock Memorial Scholarship, Jefferson Area Local Schools Academic Boosters, Grand Valley Schools student programs in memory of Emily Plickert, and the Roaming Shores Breakfast with Santa event.

Grand Valley Schools strives to improve student programs in the memory of Emily Plickert, a beloved cheerleader, classmate and friend to all.

Jeff Meddock was a resident of Roaming Shores and the beloved principal of Pymatuning Valley High School. He died unexpectedly and the money we raise helps to continue his pursuit to educate.

Both Jeff and Emily were very proud active members of The Polar Bear Club.

The Jefferson Academic Boosters strives to reward students for academic success. Also, a portion of the money we raise is also used to host the Roaming Shores Breakfast with Santa event.

If you are interested in taking the Plunge, a minimum of $55 must be raised. There is no age limit (minors will need parental consent). Each courageous person that takes that icy Plunge will get a t-shirt as a thank you for participating. Please contact us using one of the methods listed below to get required Plunge forms.

There will be a DJ and a 50/50 raffle! We’ll be serving hot dogs, chili, popcorn, chips and soda. Additional merchandise will be available for sale. You can purchase items before and/or after the plunge. First come, first serve.

Joe Innamorato – 22 ¼ in long 6.5lb large mouthed bass

The Big Fish of October and the Big Bass of the Year was caught by Joe Innamorato a 22 ¼ in long 6.5lb large mouthed bass. Joe netted $150 for both prizes.

Jones Fish supply delivered 121 lbs of fathead minnows. That equated to 8, 5 gallon buckets. The cost to the Fishing Club was $1000. They were released into the Plum Creek arm of the lake.

Why fathead minnows? The reason the Fishing Club purchased bait fish was fathead minnows are near the bottom of the food chain. The very bottom of the food chain is phytoplankton which is the green algae. Next in line is zooplankton, fat head minnows feed on both, as well as small bugs, crustations. Unlike other species of fish fathead minnows when they reproduce, they stay small. They are excellent feeder fish for bass, perch, and crappie.

Our next meeting will be April — this will reorganizational meeting where new officers will be elected.
