2022 Rib Cook-Off Looking for Teams!

Who can make the best ribs in the Shores? Get your family and friends together! On Saturday, September 3rd @ 4pm, the STARS Club will be hosting their 4th Annual Rib Cook–off.

This event will be limited to 8 teams. The winning team will win a prize and will be added to our winner’s plaque that was donated to the Club by John & Mary Lou Watt!

Cook Info: 

  • 8 Team limit  
  • Ribs will be provided by the STARS Club 
  • Team Sign-up by August 27th 
  • Team Entry fee: $50 (includes 2 dinners) 
  • Pick up ribs on Thursday, September 1st
  • Each team will receive 9 slabs  
  • Each team must be ready to serve ribs by 4pm  
  • Warming trays will be provided at the Clubhouse 

Cooking Rules: 

Ribs will be provided to the teams by the STARS Club. Prep ribs off-site.  

Each team must supply their own ingredients, tools, and any other materials needed. Ribs can be cooked in the Clubhouse area using either your own grill/smoker, the grills in the Clubhouse area (if available), or the large RRA charcoal grill will be available for cooking or warming.

Four New Pickleball Courts

The newly resurfaced pickleball courts by the RRA Clubhouse are now ready for use! This project was finished a month ahead of schedule! Be sure to thank Randy and your Board members when you see them!

A ribbon cutting ceremony followed by Pickleball Open Play will be held weather permitting on Friday, May 27 at 5:30 PM at the newly resurfaced courts by the clubhouse. Everyone is welcome to attend.

  • Please wear white soled athletic shoes on the courts. 
  • The courts are to be used for racquet sports only. 
  • No dogs, glass, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, motorized vehicles, etc. are permitted in the courts.
  • The courts are restricted for use by RRA members in good standing and guests accompanied by them. When a gate guard is on duty at the pool, please sign in and show your membership ID before using the courts.
  • Please limit your playing time to one hour if others are waiting for a court.
  • The courts are reserved for Pickleball Open Play on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday evenings 6:00 until dark and Saturday mornings 9:00-11:00AM. Everyone is welcome to join the games at that time. Depending on the skill levels of the players present, a Challenge court and a Beginners court may be established.

Meet Your RRA Board Candidates

Meet the Candidates

This year three seats need to be filled on the RRA Board, and five candidates are in the running. The seat held by board member Cheryl Fain will be vacated. Terms held by Nadine Pope (current Secretary) and Rick Brothers (current member and past President) are ending and both are running for re-election. In addition, three new residents have submitted their names for consideration. These three candidates are Anthony DiMarino, Michelle Gabram, and Jeff Grosse. 

The Roaming Shores Community Preparedness Club has invited all five candidates to the RRA Clubhouse on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM for a Meet Your Candidates Coffee. All RRA members in good standing are welcome to attend to talk to and ask questions of the candidates. Refreshments will be served.

Ballots and voting instructions will mailed out by the RRA office staff on Friday, April 1, 2022 and must be received back via USPS mail by April 27, 2022. 

Pickleball Social April 29th

Save the Date!

Roaming Shores members are all invited to the Pickleball Opening Social at the RRA Clubhouse on Friday, April 29 at 4:30 PM. Come meet other Shores pickleball players and hear about plans for our new courts and the Pickleball Club. Events in the clubhouse will include information by guest speakers, raffles, food and drinks (BYOB allowed). Weather-permitting, games and demos will be going on outside the clubhouse beginning at 4:00. Players, beginners, and those just wondering what is so much fun about pickleball are all encouraged to attend. 2022 Polar Bear Plunge Feb 26th

It’s cold and it’s snowy, the perfect time to start thinking about taking a plunge into the lake!

The 2022 Polar Bear Plunge is scheduled for Saturday, February 26th. Sign-in starts a 1pm and ends at 2:45, DJ begins at 1pm and Plunge begins at 3pm!

Money raised will benefit the Jeffrey B. Meddock Memorial Scholarship at Pymatuning Valley Schools, Grand Valley Schools student programs in memory of Emily Plickert, Jefferson Area Local Schools Academic Boosters and the Roaming Shores Kids’ Breakfast with Santa event.

To assist us in our efforts, we are taking orders in advance for our annual plunge t-shirts and hoodies. T-shirts will sell for $15 and hoodies $30 each. Payment in advance is required at the time of order and the last day we can accept an order is Feb. 7th.  Make checks payable to RSPBC and mail to 62 Rockaway Dr.  Roaming Shores, OH 44085.  Any individual who wishes to donate to this years’ plunge, please mail your check to this same address.  Questions, 330-507-4917.

Clubhouse Decorating Party – Nov 28th

Join your Friends and Neighbors and the Polar Bear Club on Sunday, November 28th from 2pm to 5pm as they invite you and your family to the Clubhouse to help decorate for Christmas! Pizza, pop, and water will be provided. Please bring a decoration to donate as our current decorations are older and falling into disrepair.

During this decorating party, a table will be set up for children to make a Christmas Card to share with the 12 men and women who will be deployed from Youngstown Air Force Base during the Holiday Season. The club is asking for donations to cover the 12 $20 gift cards that will be included with these cards. Thank you!

Holiday Bus Tour Nov 26th

The next winery bus tour will be held on Friday, November 26th. After a day of Black Friday shopping (or recovery from Thanksgiving), what better way to unwind than getting your friends and/or family together for a lovely tour of our local wineries decorated for Christmas?! The wineries for this tour are being finalized. The tour will take place from 4pm to 8pm.

You must be over 21 years of age. If you’re interested in participating in this event, please text or call Barb at 440-645-7365. The price per seat for this tour are $30/each and must be prepaid. The price helps cover the cost of the bus and proceeds go towards the fireworks fund!

Fall Dinner Nov 12th

Friends and Neighbors had a great turn out for its last Fall Dinner! Mark your calendars for the next dinner at 6pm on Friday, November 12th at The Winery at Spring Hill. Entertainment for the evening will be Fred Brazer. Pay on your own.

Our group dinners are a great way to meet your “friends and neighbors” for an evening of food and fellowship at a local restaurant. Newcomers are encouraged to attend!

Polar Bear Club Clam Bake Oct 2nd

Mark your calendars! The Polar Bear Club will be hosting a Clam Bake and Chicken Dinner on Saturday, October 2nd. Tickets are available at the Marina, RRA Office, or or call Melinda Fier at 330-507-4917. Tickets are sold in advance of the event and sales will close September 18th.

Clam Dinners are $25.00 – Chicken Dinners are $20.00. Extra clam tickets will be available for $10.00.

Club members are doing the cooking and they are full half chickens this year. Seating will be 4:00pm and 4:30pm. We purchased 2 large clam pots and have a third donated. Dinner includes 12 clams, chicken, corn on the cob, baked potato, dessert, salad and bread.

Winery Bus Tour – Aug 21st

Join the STARS Club on Saturday, August 21st from 2:00pm – 6:00pm as they host their first Winery Bus Tour since the COVID hiatus.

Winery Bus Tours are an excellent opportunity to visit new wineries or old favorites, socialize with your friends and neighbors, and not have to worry about who’s driving!
Reservations are essential! If you would like to join us, please RSVP ASAP. The first 15 to RSVP will be guaranteed a seat on the bus. There will be a waiting list and an additional bus will be order, if needed.

Seats on the bus are $25/each. You must be over 21 years of age. To reserve your spot or if you have any questions, contact Barb at 440-645-7365 or stop by the RRA Office.

We will meet at the Clubhouse parking lot at 1:30pm on August 21st. The buses will leave at 2pm!

DDuring this Tour, we will be visiting: StoneGait Winery, Cask 307, and Benny Vino Winery. The wineries are adjusted each event.
