August STARS News

Time flies when we are having fun, but where has the summer gone?

The S.T.A.R.S. Club has experienced several successful months so far, July will be one to remember.

The Jason Scribben Memorial 3 on 3 Volleyball Tournament was held again, and had a somewhat predicable conclusion with the Ruebel family once again victorious, and we look forward to continuing the tradition again next year.

We had a first at Roaming Shores with the Stellar Copters rides, and more than 130 riders got a high-level look at Lake Roaming Rock, and the rooves of their individual homes.

The STARS Club is planning to repeat this adventure in October, and let everyone have an opportunity to see the colorful fall foliage, before the leaves turn brown and fall, and we have to rake them.

Following the helicopter rides, we observed a “Spectacular Fireworks Display” that seemed to set the skies over Lake Roaming Rock on fire. We hope everyone enjoyed the show, and will send in additional contributions that will allow us to fund a similar event next year.

Swimmers utilizing Beach One are really enjoying the use of the huge new float, which was donated by the retiring Promotion Club, has brought joy and excitement to the swimmers, and will continue to provide great entertainment for many years to come.

August plans are being made for a Wine Tasting Social and a Casino Night at the Clubhouse. The Casino Night is being planned in cooperation with the Shores Hold’em Club.

STARS appreciates your interest and generous donations which are important to the Club’s ability to function now and into the future.

Jack McMillin
President, STARS Club

Please feel free to bring an appetizer to share or your own wine to sample. Hope to see you there!

4th of July Weekend Recap

Independence Day Weekend is always a busy time here in the Shores. Despite the 50th last year being the biggest ever, this year was no exception.

The Festivities began on Saturday, July 1st with helicopter rides over the lake provided by Stellar Copters. Captain John Marstellar provided some of the best views of the lake throughout the day to many brave passengers, young and old. Here’s some video in case you would either like to relive the moment, or didn’t have the opportunity.

Also on Saturday was the Annual Jason Scribben Memorial Volleyball Tournament. The game is played in the memory of Jason P. The day capped off with a bang… literally… with the Annual Roaming Shores Fireworks Display. I know we say this every year, but this show was truly one of the best ever! Thank you to everyone who contributed towards making the fireworks show a reality that keeps getting better year after year!

The following morning was the 2nd Annual ‘Givin’ it a Tri in the Shores’, a fun Mini Triathlon where participants completed a 160yd swim in the lake, a 5.75mi bike ride, and a 2 mile run.

Independence Day Weekend Activities

In July, the major event organized by S.T.A.R.S. will be the annual Fireworks Display. This will be on July 1, Saturday evening at 10pm, weather permitting. The rain date will be July 2. This year’s display was made possible by the past efforts of the Promotion Club, thank you to Bob and Carol Delly for their years of work organizing the annual display!

Your interest and generous donations are important to the club’s ability to present this display.

Please anchor your boats around the buoys (rather than down the lake) for safety and the best view of lower & sky driven displays. Try to be in place by 9:30pm/9:45pm.

**On Fireworks Night, the entire lake will be NO WAKE beginning at 8pm until dawn the following morning.**

Also on July 1 the Jason Scribben memorial 3 on 3 volleyball tournament will be held. Registration will begin at noon with the tournament beginning at 1pm.

In addition to that there will be helicopter rides offered, at the tennis court area, near the Clubhouse (RL 4), from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Since this was called off due to rain during the cleanup day event, we have rescheduled this opportunity with Stellar Copters to provide the aerial view of the lake at a fee of $30.00 per person.

On Sunday, July 2nd will be the 2nd Annual Roaming Shores Mini Triathlon. Registration will begin at 7am with the Race beginning at 8am. See the Mini Tri article for more details!
