We hope you had a wonderful time celebrating Independence Day weekend with us here in Roaming Shores! Aside from some sprinkles Friday, we were blessed with perfect weather and nothing was rained out! Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers, safety services, sponsors, and participants! Without you, none of this would be possible.
It all kicked off Friday evening with a Summer Concert with the Swamp Rattlers at the Kathy Crandall Entertainment Pavilion. Cove Creek BBQ was our food truck for the evening.
We had another record breaking year for the STARS Club’s Annual Roaming Shores 5k and 1-mile. This year, we had 224 registrations!! See the results and more pictures linked below!
Thank you to our 5K sponsors whose support helps our race grow every year!

The Roaming Shores Police Department hosted their Annual Cardboard Boat races on Saturday at noon.
In a delightful display of creativity and engineering prowess, five cardboard boats recently stole the show at our local race by not just floating, but by thriving against the unforgiving waves of Lake Roaming Rock. From the sleek and meticulously crafted “NAG” designed by engineering by the Vanest’s to the nostalgic DeLorean “OUTATIME” with its impressive details, each boat showcased their own unique strengths. Our colorful boat named “WILD STAR” navigated playfully along the coastline, while the robust “R.J. SYNNOW” built by Ryder Synnott faced great hardship due to the wind. Finally, the “GALAXY” made quite a statement with its sustainable design that ultimately lead Doug Day to victory as the field’s fastest boat. These boats not only survived the challenge but also exemplified how innovation and creativity can turn humble materials into triumphant vessels on the water.
Our 2024 contest winner were:
We would like to thank all of our racers and give special mention to family and friends who helped construct or supported the boats that raced on Saturday. We would also like to thank our volunteer judges, photographers and our fire/EMS service personnel who provided safety overwatch during the race.
In addition to the above, we also need to thank NOPEC who awarded us a special community events grant that ultimately made this event and our Cardboard Boat Workshops possible. Last but not least, we would also like to thank Todd and Rick of the Ashtabula Aarons who provided us with all of the construction cardboard utilized at our workshops.
Again, thank you for your participation and we truly look forward to seeing you again next year.

Also on Saturday, the Annual Jason Scribben Memorial Volleyball Tournament was held. We had some great competition while celebrating Jason’s Memory and promoting safe boating on our lake. 1st Place again this year were Don Palm, Mark Miller, Randy Ruebel!
DJ Doctor D kept us entertained throughout the evening leading up the Fireworks. The fireworks display was again amazing!! Our fireworks are funded by the community and fundraisers by the STARS Club. Without your contributions, the show would not be possible. Thank you!! If you would like to help contribute towards next year’s show, you can Venmo the STARS Club @rsstarsclub.
Honoring the memory of Pat Sowry, whom we lost last year, we lit up the lake following the fireworks.
