A Message from your RRA Board of Directors

This is very difficult time for everyone.  What is happening now is worldwide and the impacts will be felt for a very long time.  It is not “Business as Usual” for anyone.  It is up to all of us to keep our community safe and minimize any negative financial impact as best as possible.  The phrase “We are in this together” is certainly true.  Your property owner’s association is committed to honor this phrase in both spirit and practice.  Our goals are simple, safety first for both our residents and our employees.

There are many uncertainties and long-term plans cannot be certain and will reflect the changes imposed by our state and Federal governments.  Social distancing is a requirement and until that ban is lifted no public spaces will be open including pools.

We are doing what you are doing in your own households; reviewing what needs done and how best to do it.  Until the pandemic situation has ended, our employees will continue to function for basic tasks only.  There will be no long-term maintenance tasks or purchases in the next 90 days.

Our Mayor, Jennie, has said many times…”One lake, one community”, that has never been more important.  We are working with the Village in the best interest of all residents.   We need your help as well.  Please honor the mandates from our Governor.  Do not feel you are exempt from either the rules or the virus.  You are not!!!!  Listed below are the actions and updates of Your Board at this time:

Dues & Assessments –  If you can, please pay your dues as scheduled by the May 1 due date.  If you can’t, we understand and will not assess any late charges until July 1, 2020.  About 40% of you have already paid and for that we are very grateful.  Your Association is not-for-profit and all money collected is put back into the community.  Thank you for understanding the importance of this.

Current Priorities –  The 2020 budget was pretty tight.  We did this so we would not have to raise dues.  We are reevaluating each and every dollar to ensure they are spent appropriately with the understanding that funds will be reduced this year because of the pandemic.  Other revenue streams such as clubhouse rental and outstanding collections will also be reduced.  The Board is working with Association Management to focus spends on safety issues and general maintenance, like grass cutting.  We are also looking at some creative ways to generate income that will also provide benefits to our residents.

Lake Updates – Our lake is a great place to practice social distancing but please be mindful of safety issues.  Last year we experienced a great number of complaints regarding violations of both ODNR laws and RRA regulations.  Our lake safety committee has been working all winter on a new program which included working with our Village Police and the ODNR to provide a presence on the lake.  Unfortunately, these enhancements cannot go into place until the world returns to normal.   Each one of us needs to use common sense.  Not one of our hospitals would appreciate the burden of taking care of someone who is hurt because of a foolish accident.  Please review all rules and regulations.  Make sure any watercraft powered by more than 10 hp operated by anyone  born on or after January 1, 1982  has completed a boating course approved by the National Association of State Boating Association Administrators (NASBLA) or completed a proficiency exam approved by the ODNR Division of Watercraft.   All 2019 RRA boat decals have been extended by 30 days and will not expire until May 22, 2020.  However, make sure you get your 2020 boat decals.   We have made this process much easier but the decals cannot be issued until your dues and assessments are current.

Monthly Board Meetings – These are still being held but are being done through software that allows us to meet using phone and laptop technology.  It is always harder to convene this way and not meet face to face but your directors are making the best of it and will continue to focus on all association business.  Unfortunately, we do not have a way to include you, the members.  Until such time as the public meeting ban is cancelled, we have not choice.  Please feel free to direct your questions and comments through our website.

Annual Meeting – This, too, has been affected by the public meeting ban.  We will continue to monitor the situation and reschedule it for later this year if possible.  In the meantime, we will be publishing our annual President’s report and our annual financial report.  Watch for these later this month.

Reporting Problems and Questions –  Please call the office or send an email. You may not reach a person directly but someone will contact you.  Our team members may be working staggered hours so be patient about your response.  If it is an emergency, please contact the appropriate authorities.

Thank you all for your commitment to our community.  You are the heart and soul of Roaming Shores and what makes it an awesome!  We appreciate your understanding and your willingness to do whatever it takes to get us through these challenging days.  Stay safe, stay healthy!!!
