Current Conditions for Week of 9/18/2017:
The current results for the testing program for the lake are summarized above.  A green cell indicates that latest test results for bacteria or microcystin are below the USEPA or OhioEPA criteria for recreational water.  A yellow cell indicates that the latest test value for bacteria or microcystin has exceeded the Advisory limit and appropriate caution is advised.  A red cell indicates that the latest test results for microcystin has exceeded the Elevated Advisory limit where contact with the lake should be avoided. Advisory signs posted at a beach may not reflect the latest test results due to the requirement for two consecutive low values prior to removal. Your Lake Management Committee’s (LMC) water testing program for harmful algal blooms (Microcystin) monitors our two beach areas monthly during the hot, summer months.  In addition, the LMC is also having tests performed for the presence of E.coli bacteria weekly at the two beaches as is done in most public beaches.  Should any of these test results approach the level of caution, the Board of Directors can request that caution signs be posted at the affected beaches for your safety.  Of course, common sense tells us not to swim in any waters that contain unusual amounts of algae.  Please enjoy our beautiful lake and have a safe summer.

Criteria for HAB Toxins (Tested Monthly). Currently, the 2016 State of Ohio Harmful Algal Bloom Response Strategy for Recreational Waters lists values above 6 ppb as a Public Health Advisory. Above 20 ppb, an Elevated Public Health Advisory is recommended and suggests that contact with the lake water should be avoided.

Criteria for Bacteria (Tested Weekly).  Presence for bacteria is monitored by measuring the level of E.coli in the water at the two beaches as is done on most Ohio public beaches.  The USEPA has issued a guidance document which includes a Beach Action Value (BAV) of  235 cfu/100mL. Should the level exceed this value, notifications should be posted.  Heavy rain events are known to increase bacterial levels so caution is advised should this occur.
