Opening Day Recap

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a week, but we finally had a chance to catch up from our big Opening Weekend of the 60th Anniversary Celebration! Welcome to our recap of all the festivities. While the weather didn’t always cooperate, it was a wonderful weekend filled with celebration, community, and memories!

Half Marathon

The inaugural Roaming Shores Half Marathon, hosted by the STARS Club, kicked off the celebration, welcoming both beginner and seasoned runners alike. Nearly 100 runners registered, with 81 crossing the finish line!

Congratulations to all of the participants and finishers!

Thank you to the members of the STARS Club, Stasny Road Racing, and our sponsors for their support in making this event a success!

Thanks also to the Roaming Shores Police Department for leading the pack and helping keep runners safe, as well as the Morgan Hose Fire Department, Rome Fire Department, and SCAD for their support. Special thanks to Ohio Department of Transportation for helping ensure runners’ safety along Route 6!

Last but not least, we wish to give a shout out to Center Creek Designs for their work on the giveaway items for the participants, Bee Can Do Engravings for the awards, and Custom Race Medal for the finisher medals!

Be sure to check out all of the amazing pictures in the full album linked below!

Opening Ceremonies

Following the Half Marathon, the celebration continued with the dedication of the newly renovated clubhouse.

Raising the Flag

The event began with the raising of the flag by the Rock Creek VFW Post 4953 and the playing of our National Anthem.

Clubhouse Dedication

Following the raising of the flag was the dedication of the newly renovated Clubhouse. Deacon and RRA member Jim Kovats led everyone in a prayer.

Those present then heard speeches from 60th Anniversary Committee Chair Mark Dougherty, RRA Board President Scott Soble, and Village Councilor Holly Mayernick.

Longest Member Reception

Immediately following the dedication, a reception was held to honor those members who have owned for 40 years or more!

Members shared memories and stories from their time in the Shores.

Our longest-owning member, Dave Emick, attended with his family. Dave bought his first lot in Roaming Rock Shores in 1966, before there was even a lake!

Ed Cup shared a map (colored with crayon!) that the original salesmen used to sell property in the Shores!

We thank everyone who came to the reception and shared their memories!

Thank you to the Welcome Club and Water Exercise Club for providing the delicious food for the reception and to Leanne (so sorry, I didn’t catch your last name) for making the cake!

Golf Cart & Bicycle Parade

The rain put a damper on the Golf Cart and Bicycle Parade, but we made the most of it and had a lot of fun to round out an amazing day! Thank you to everyone who participated and cheered us on!

Surprise Concert

Following the Golf Cart and Bicycle Parade, members were treated to a surprise concert in the Clubhouse featuring Backwood Boyz. Thank you to the band for providing a fun and energetic end to a great day of celebration!
