1st Half Algae Treatment 2023

6/30 Update: Swimming may resume. Thank you, everyone for your cooperation.

6/27 Update: We have a window in the weather so the treatment will take place today on the south half of the lake. Boating may resume Thursday; swimming may resume Saturday (this may be updated to be sooner based on testing results). Please turn off any fountains or devices that agitate the water.

6/26 Update: The lake will not be treated today, 6/26 due to the threat of severe thunderstorms. The plan is to perform the treatment tomorrow, Tuesday, June 27th. AquaDoc will be out on the lake today testing the watershed to determine if the treatment will take place tomorrow and whether it will be the north or south end of the lake, depending on the severity of blooms. If the treatment does not occur Tuesday, it will not be performed this week due to the impact on the holiday weekend.

6/23 Update: As of this writing, the weather does not look ideal for the treatment. However, AquaDoc plans to try to perform the treatment either Monday or Tuesday. Once we have received word that the application is on-going, a text alert will be sent out. Signs will also be posted at the  marina and the beaches. If the application is performed on Tuesday, please adjust the dates in the notice below accordingly. Thank you.

Based on recommendations from our consultants, we are scheduling the first half of the whole lake algal treatment for Monday, June 26th. This will include the southern end of the lake up to just north of the beaches.

Unfortunately, we cannot preemptively treat the lake for algae; the lake can only be treated when algae begins to form. While unfortunate that the timing is right before the holiday, the goal is to have as minimal impact on the big holiday weekend as possible while treating the algae before it becomes a problem.

The following steps will be done during the first treatment. *Please note that should these plans change, we will let you know as soon as possible.

1) Completed. The lake level will be lowered to comply with the Ohio EPA requirements for this application. The valve is expected to be opened on Friday, June 23. Please adjust your boat tie downs to accommodate the water level change.

2) Please turn off all fountains or other devices that agitate the lake water in the application area on Tuesday AM.  They may be turned back on Thursday, June 29.

3) The application will be applied during the day of June 27.

4) Please refrain from any activities on the lake, including boating, jet skis, etc, starting Tuesday, June 27 to allow the treatment to be effective and to spread in a predictable manner. Boat traffic may resume on Thursday, June 29.The boat ramp will be closed from Tuesday AM through Thursday AM.

5) While the lake is deemed safe following the application, we are closing the beaches Tuesday June 27 through Friday as a precautionary measure. Swimming and other activities involving direct contact with the lake should be avoided during this time. While unlikely, if you observe any undisposed product (a powder with a bluish tint), avoid direct contact and let the office know where it is observed.

6) Do not water your property with water from the lake during this period.

While these steps may be inconvenient, they are necessary to insure the best chance for a successful application. Activities can resume for the Holiday weekend. As always, since the northern half of the lake will not be treated before the Holiday, please avoid direct contact with any active algal blooms. Enjoy the Holiday.
