August 2022 Board Meeting Recap
The RomeRock Association held their monthly Meeting on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the clubhouse with the following directors present, Scott Soble, Nadine Pope, Bob McClintock, Louise Lisac, Rick Brothers and Rory Marshall.
President, Scott Soble called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. and Louise Lisac gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Pat Sowry called the roll. The July Meeting Minutes were approved.
Bob McClintock reviewed the June Treasurer’s Report, which was approved.
Scott welcomed everyone and reminded those present that Three for All will be playing tonight at the Kathy Crandall Pavilion. Food will be available from the Polar Bear Club.
Under Legal, Louise reported that there are no current legal issues.
Under Financial and Collection, Nadine reported that about 55 letters have been sent to members with delinquent accounts in the past two weeks. We are starting to get payments from these and more letters will be sent out this month.
Dave Ernes reported for Lake Management that the first lake treatments have been successful and Aqua Doc has found no blue green algae when on the lake this past week, so the second round of treatments has been postponed and hopefully will not be needed. Some residents present were concerned about the green algae that has appeared on the lake. It, however, is not toxic. We are meeting with our experts at AquaDoc and Enviro Science to see if it can be safely treated. Residents also questioned dredging on the south end of the lake. This will begin after Labor Day. Currently smaller coves on the north end of the lake are being dredged. Dredging these coves does not seem to raise the nutrient levels in the lake that dredging the main lake would in the hot weather. Dave was also pleased to report that native aquatic plants are returning to the lake, which is a definite sign that our lake is becoming healthier. AquaDoc also noted that they have never seen our lake look this good.
Rory reported for Lake Safety that we are extremely pleased with the job our Lake Patrol is doing this season. Members are becoming aware that if they are in violation, they will be stopped and cited if they are creating an unsafe situation or if they do not display current RRA boat stickers. Our biggest problem continues to be guests using members’ watercraft without being aware of our lake rules and without proper instruction.
Steve Kaufman, our Village Liaison, reported that council is currently working on a salary structure for both employees and our Police Department. He explained the Police levies on the November ballot and urged members to attend council meetings, held the first and third Tuesday of each month. Mike Petersen reported for Board of Review that they will be meeting soon to review a member citation. To date, they have reviewed eleven citations this year.
Rick reported for Building, Facilities and Amenities that the Pickle Ball courts are very popular. There has been amazing attendance at our concerts and the food trucks have been busy. Rick has come up with a great new amenity for those of us who want something a little less strenuous, Bingo in the Shores. We’re going to try to start this fall with one Friday night a month. Rick is looking for some experienced bingo players to help us get started. Nadine also reported that she will be working with Jeff Grosse and Mindy Fier to look at upgrading our playground equipment and making it more user friendly for our younger children.
Nadine reported for Administration and Personnel that we had our monthly employee meeting to review what is happening and do any needed problem solving. Wendy and Pat are really stepping up to help cover the office when Jen goes on maternity leave later this month. We are so happy for her and look forward to her return. Please be patient because some responses may take a little longer. We are also looking at meeting with our entire maintenance staff after the pools close to have a brain storming session about how we can dredge more effectively and efficiently. These are the people doing the work and seeing what works and what needs improvement.
Club Reports: Barb Buckley reported for STARS that there will be a Winery Bust Tour on August 13th. There will also be a Holiday Winery Bus Tour in late November. The Rib Cook Off will be Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September 3rd. Dinner tickets will be $25.00 each and go on sale soon. Tickets are limited so if you are interested, please contact Barb or call the RRA office. Our final Summer Concert will also be held that Saturday. Marie Kaufman reminded us that the shores Golf Leagues meet on Thursday – women in the morning and men in the evening at Hemlock Springs Golf Course. She also updated us on Pickleball Club activities. The club has a new email address shorespickleball@gmail.com. Their first Tournament will be September 9th beginning at 4 p.m. Scott gave us an update on the Polar Bear Club activities. He thanked the club and Posh Plumbing for the donation of a new commercial kitchen faucet for the clubhouse. The club is also going to install an RV electrical hook up at the clubhouse for our food trucks. We wanted to thank Mindy and the club volunteers for the wonderful Kids Carnival that they organized and put on Saturday, July 29th. Rick reported that Friends and Neighbors will host a dinner the second Friday in September.
