Spectators gathered along the shore, phones in hand and cheers in the air. The event was part race, part spectacle, and entirely chaos.

At the end of an anxious count down the fleet launched! Almost instantly, RSPD a sleek, black creation with a suspiciously police-themed paint job lurched forward, groaned, and folded like an accordion. Within three seconds, it was doomed and claimed by the lake in a gurgle of defeat and soggy cardboard. The crowd roared in laughter and sympathy as its captain floated to shore waving a detached paddle like a white flag.

With RSPD out, the race was on.

Fireball, a precisely engineered craft, surged ahead alongside Outatime, a retro-futuristic boat that looked like it was made from the scraps of a DeLorean and a pizza box. The two boats rounded the dock neck-and-neck, their captains fiercely paddling and splashing water in wild arcs. Cheers rose as they battled for dominance.

Behind them, the R.J. Synnow and Watermelon Suprise were locked in a cardboard brawl of their own. R.J. Synnow, recycled from 2024, took a massive hit from Watermelon Suprise, whose green and pink paint job belied its aggressive tactics. The two bumped, jostled and zigzagged wildly as they vied for third place.

Bringing up the rear, valiantly if not particularly effectively, was the S.S. Princess a pink and purple craft of impressive design but of questionable navigational logic. While the others fought their way to the finish line, S.S. Princess spun in elegant circles, doubling the race distance with its pirouetting path. The captain, undeterred, waved proudly at the crowd with each spin of the boat.

In the end, Fireball edged out Outatime by mere feet to take the win. R.J. Synnow barely nosed past Watermelon Surprise in a third place photo finish. S.S. Princess, having finally figured out which way was forward, crossed the line to a standing ovation.

Though only one took first place, all six boats definitely left their soggy mark on Lake Roaming Rock.

The six boats lined up at the water’s edge were:

RSPD, Piloted by Doug Day – MOST SPECTACULAR SINKING BOAT

The R.J. Last but not least, we would like to thank Todd and Rick of the Ashtabula Aarons who provided us with all of the construction cardboard utilized at our workshops.

Again, thank you for your participation and we truly look forward to seeing you again next year.

Roaming Shores Police Department.

Jason Scribben Memorial Volleyball Tournament

ngg_shortcode_1_placeholder

Also on Saturday, the Annual Jason Scribben Memorial Volleyball Tournament was held at Beach 1.
