Another Successful Plunge!
The 13th Annual Roaming Shores Polar Bear Plunge was held over the weekend. There may not have been any ice of the lake, but it was still a chilly day with even chillier waters. That didn’t stop 75 brave jumpers from taking the icy plunge! This year’s Plunge raised $7,635 which will be used to benefit the Jeff Meddock Memorial Scholarship, Jefferson Area Local Schools Academic Boosters, Grand Valley Schools student programs in memory of Emily Plickert, and the Roaming Shores Breakfast with Santa event.
Thanks to everyone who turned out for this year’s Plunge whether you were one of the brave souls who took the plunge or were there to cheer on those who did!
Gayle Zirkle, Polar Bear Club President, triumphantly emerges from the icy plunge!
Team Wild Side raised over $2000!
Thank you to the members and volunteers of the Polar Bear Club for organizing such a great event! A big thanks to all of the Plunge’s business sponsors and to all of the local rescue teams! Thanks also go out to the Cannon family for their donation of the Aqua Lily Pad that was raffled off.

2018 Polar Bear Plunge – March 10th
The Roaming Shores Polar Bear Plunge is still the only Polar Bear Plunge in the county! This year’s Polar Bear Plunge event will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Roaming Shores Clubhouse/Main Beach. The actual plunge will begin at 3pm.
The Polar Bear Plunge will include brave students from Jefferson, Grand Valley and Pymatuning Valley Schools, as well as wild and crazy local area residents. Last year’s Polar Bear Plunge raised $7,211.00 with 94 Jumpers. We need your help to make this year’s event even more successful.
This year, the money we raise will be used to benefit the Jeff Meddock Memorial Scholarship, Jefferson Area Local Schools Academic Boosters, Grand Valley Schools student programs in memory of Emily Plickert, and the Roaming Shores Breakfast with Santa event.
Grand Valley Schools strives to improve student programs in the memory of Emily Plickert, a beloved cheerleader, classmate and friend to all.
Jeff Meddock was a resident of Roaming Shores and the beloved principal of Pymatuning Valley High School. He died unexpectedly and the money we raise helps to continue his pursuit to educate.
Both Jeff and Emily were very proud active members of The Polar Bear Club.
The Jefferson Academic Boosters strives to reward students for academic success. Also, a portion of the money we raise is also used to host the Roaming Shores Breakfast with Santa event.
If you are interested in taking the Plunge, a minimum of $55 must be raised. There is no age limit (minors will need parental consent). Each courageous person that takes that icy Plunge will get a t-shirt as a thank you for participating.
There will be a DJ and a 50/50 raffle! We’ll be serving hot dogs, chili, popcorn, chips and soda. Additional merchandise will be available for sale. You can purchase items before and/or after the plunge. First come, first serve.

Fisherman with a Purpose
Mike Chevalier, a long time Fishing Club member, can be seen bass fishing on our lake any day that ends in a “Y”. This year he has a purpose; he has been keeping data on the bass he has caught this year. Mike has caught 486 bass this year with a total weight of 680lbs. This is an average of 1.39lb per fish.
Mike caught 4 fish this year that were over 4lbs; the biggest being 4.71lbs. Mike starts fishing in April and ends in December. On April 7th, Mike caught 50 bass. With Mike’s data, the Club can hopefully keep track of the size and health of our bass population.

Tree Trimming Social Hour
Fishing Club News – Nov 2017
In November of 2017, the club purchased $600 worth of fathead minnows. The club paid out $350 for long fish of the month and $100 for big bass of the year.
The winners for 2017 were:
- April: Mike Zook
- May: Bill Fettig
- June: Charles Plant
- July: Lamdim Hall
- Aug: Ruth Plant
- Sept: Frank Mize
- Oct: Mike Chevalier
Big Bass of the year was won by Frank Mize, a 22” long big mouth bass that weighed 6.58lbs.
The Club sponsored the Kids Fishing Day and had a free seminar for kids on how to fish. The Club is saddened by the passing of Ed Baitt who ran the club for many years. Ed did a great job and was a friend to many. We would like to thank all of the people that joined the club. And a special thanks to Members that don’t fish, but supported the Club.
Our next meeting will be Monday, April 9th, 2018 at 7pm at the Clubhouse. Have a great winter!
Join the STARS!
It was a very busy first year for Roaming Shores’ newest club, the STARS (Social Times At Roaming Shores). In 2017 alone, the Club hosted Winter Fest, Dog Training Classes, Swim Lessons, the Community Garage Sale, the Mini Triathlon, a Reverse Raffle, Helicopter Rides, a Wine Tasting, and Casino Night. Additionally, the Club has taken on the responsibilities of funding and hosting the Annual Fireworks Display.
We would love to continue hosting these events and adding more as time goes on, but we can’t do it alone! We need volunteers to help plan and run events in order for them to come to fruition and be successful.
The Club will be meeting next on Wednesday, November 8th at 6pm at the Clubhouse. We will be planning events for 2018 during this meeting. If you’re interested in learning what the club is all about, or would like to share your ideas, or if you would like to get involved, this would be an excellent time to do so. Please mark your calendars!
