Mini Triathlon Gives Back

Thank you to all who came out for our 1st Annual Mini Triathlon, Givin’ it a Tri in the Shores! The event was a great success and we couldn’t have done it without your support! We had 75 total participants. 38 racers competed individually with 37 making up 14 teams.

50th Anniversary Recap

The 50th Anniversary Celebration kicked off at 5:30pm on Friday, July 1st with opening ceremonies in the Clubhouse. RRA Board President Tom Sopko introduced the officials of the Association and Village. Barb Buckley, the Chair of the 50th Anniversary Committee introduced its members and their accomplishments. Doris Karger unveiled the 50th Anniversary Quilt. Mayor John Ball then read a Proclamation honoring Chief Randy Rasmussen in his retirement, followed by a presentation of a shadowbox put together by Sergeant Dan Bennett, and finally, the cutting of his retirement cake.

Members then enjoyed free hotdogs provided by the Promotion Club and cooked by Pat and Sally Flash. Behind the Concession Stand, DJ Brendan Cain entertained everyone with a wide variety of different music for all ages until the late evening.

The next morning began with Jungle Terry. Kids of all ages got to interact and learn about several different animals, reptiles, and arachnids!

Fun for the kids continued with a King and Queen contest. The Miss Grapette Pageant Grapettes Jamie and Rylee were the Pageant Escorts. The Judges for the little princesses and princes were former Queen Maureen Simon, Rachel Schulze, and Carol Hertz. Carol started the first pageant that was ever held in the Shores. Laurie Schulze emceed the event.

Throughout the day, 50-50, Chinese Auction, and Merchandise were sold. Another popular attraction was the Jail and Bail. For $1, our Jailers “arrested” people and kept them jailed until they either served their time or made bail (another $1). No one was safe! Several Directors, Fire Chief Ed Koziol, kids, and even our own Roaming Shores Police Officers did time in the slammer!

The Rome Fire Department brought the Fire Safety House, their Water Rescue boat, and a Firetruck for kids to go into and learn about Fire Safety.

Over at the Volleyball court, the Annual Jason Scribben Memorial 3 on 3 Volleyball Tournament took place. The Ruebel family again took 1st place!

In the evening began the Luau. Ticket holders enjoyed several Hawaiian favorites. The Luau continued on the beach with Hula and Fire Dancing.

No celebration on the lake is complete without Fireworks! Bob and Carol Delly of the Promotion Club organized the event. The fireworks show was simply amazing this year!

The following morning was the 1st Annual ‘Givin’ it a Tri in the Shores’ Mini Triathlon. The race was organized by Joy Weimer, Jan Hurwitz, Jen Addair, and Arlene & Jim Kovats. 75 participants entered the race individually or as a team. We had 23 volunteers (under the direction of Dick Hurwitz) who guided the participants on the roads and were ready to help in case of emergency. Everyone who participated felt very comfortable and safe with the outstanding support from Roaming Shores Police Department, Rome Fire Department’s Water Rescue Squad, South Central Ambulance District, and Morgan Ambulance squad. Jordan Matthew from 98.3 the Bull provided DJing services for the event. Thank you to our Sponsors Perma Gro, Kennington Electric, Signsations, and Tri-county Veterinarians.

Medals were given out to the 1st Place Male Individual (Justin Thomas), Female Individual (Caroline Sauers), and Team (the Bader Family-guests from Ontario Canada)

Also on the morning of the 3rd, the Fishing Club hosted a Fishing Tournament. The winners were Al Robosky, Nathan Kristoff, and Jon Klein.

Over on the beach, the Sand Sculpture Contest kicked off with 6 families participating, the Pallo, Fain-Gambol-Woodard, Emick, Unangst, Paglio, and O’Keefe families.

In the afternoon, a Boat Parade was held. 50th Anniversary Queen Jamie Ebersole lead the parade followed by the Vinick Boat – Tequila Sunrise, the Baitt Boat – Jailhouse Rock, the Hopkins Boat – Tequila, the Sopko Boat – Where the Boys Are, the Paglio Boat – Jailhouse Rock, the Chudakoff Boat – Mexican Hat Dance, and the Houser Boat – Grease Lightning.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration – July 1st – July 3rd

50th anniv logoThe RRA’s 50th Anniversary Committee is hard at work preparing for the big celebration this summer. The 50th Anniversary will be celebrated from Friday, July 1st until Sunday, July 3rd. Don’t miss out!

**Please note, events are subject to change.

The Celebration will kick off in the evening on Friday, July 1st with opening ceremonies inside the Clubhouse at 5:30pm. Free hotdogs at Beach 1 will begin at 6pm. Also on Friday evening, we will be hosting a dance. DJ Brendan Cain will be returning! He has a wide variety of playlists for almost any age group. It should be a great time for all!

Saturday, July 2nd will be a very busy day! It all will kick off in the morning at 10am with Jungle Terry, a King and Queen Contest, and Kids Games. The annual Jason Scribben Memorial Volleyball Tournament will be held at the court at Beach 1. Come check out the Safety House and Rescue Squad displays in the Clubhouse Parking lot!

In the evening, we will be hosting a Hawaiian Luau at the Clubhouse. The Luau will feature authentic Hawaiian cuisine with hula and fire dancing on the beach. The committee will be selling tickets to the dinner; there are only 200 tickets available. Tickets are $20 each and available from Committee Members and at the RRA Office The Dinner portion of the Luau is SOLD OUT!

The entertainment portion of the Luau on the beach will be free and open to all members in good standing, their families, and friends.

Saturday will also be the Fireworks night! This year should be a great show in honor of our 50th anniversary!

But we’re not done yet; Sunday, July 3rd will bring even more fun! It will begin in the morning with our first family fun mini triathlon! This event is open to members, their families, and friends and can be entered as an individual or a 2-3 person team. Registration form available here. You can register at the RRA Office. The Mini Fun Triathlon will include a 160 yard swim at beach 1, a 5.75 mile bike ride, and a 2 mile run. It will all begin and end at the Clubhouse.

Also on Sunday will be a sand sculpture contest, a Fishing Tournament, a Boat and Jetski Parade (registration required), and our traditional East vs. West Tug-of-War!

There will also be 50/50, merchandise sales, and other fun events all celebration long. Mark your calendars! Don’t miss out on the celebration!

The Quilters Guild will be putting the 50th Anniversary Quilt together soon. If you have not paid for a square, or have not turned yours in, please do so ASAP!

Luau on the Lake – July 2nd

On Saturday, July 2nd (Fireworks night) during the 50th Anniversary Celebration this summer, there will be a Luau held at Beach 1. The Luau will feature Live Entertainment and a Hawaiian Buffet from Coconuts Tiki Bar & Grill.

Tickets are required for the dinner buffet portion of the Luau. Tickets are only $20 each and are available at the RRA Office or from 50th Anniversary Committee members. Please contact Barb at (440) 645-7365 or Jen at (440) 563-3170 for details.

The menu includes: Tropical Fruit, Island Punch, Egg Rolls (chicken and veggie) & Spring Rolls, Spring mix salad with sesame ginger vinaigrette and a Hawaiian sweet roll, Kalua Pua’a (roasted pork) with cabbage, Huli-Huli Chicken (grilled Hawaiian marinated sesame ginger), Island Rice, Grilled Veggies, and Potato/Macaroni Salad. Come hungry!

Dinner service will begin at 5pm in the Clubhouse. Get your tickets today! Only 200 will be sold and they will go quickly.

The Live Entertainment portion of the Luau will begin at 7pm at Beach 1. This is a free event and will be open to all Members in good standing, their family and friends. There will be Hula and Fire Dancers on the beach. Fun for all!

The Luau will wrap up in time for you to grab your seats for the Annual Roaming Shores Fireworks Show. Save the date!

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of Roaming Shores, we will be hosting a Boat and Jetski Parade. The theme of the parade is 1950s Songs. Pick a song, decorate your boat, and dress the part. Make sure your costumes and decorations are appropriate to the song. Bring your own music.

The parade will take place on Sunday, July 3rd at 1pm and will be viewable from Beach 1.

Trophies will be awarded for 1st place boat/pontoon and 1st place jetski. There will be prizes for 2nd and 3rd place.

The Lanyards are $2/each and include a bulldog clip and a sealable membership card holder. Perfect for the pool! Keep your card handy and dry!

Koozies are $1/each. Perfect for the beach, picnics, or our on the lake. They are collapsible for easy storage and portability.

You can purchase yours at the Association Office, they will also be available at the Annual Meeting on April 30th.
