General Manager's Report
General Manager’s Report # 255
Gary R. Phillips, October 20, 2011:
At the Sept. 28-29 Fall OLCA Meeting we picked up some very good information. Several lakes have purchased refuse trucks and now haul their members’ trash at lower rates than before and at least one lake predicts a new income stream of about $145,000 per year.
Gas & oil well drilling was discussed. Very impressive sums seem possible to those lakes that can pull it off. While Carroll County, the county around Lake Mohawk, is undergoing a bidding “war” at present, some 14 to 16 of our OLCA lakes sit atop the Marcellus formation that has brought 72,000 jobs to Pennsylvania alone.
We picked up a bunch of tips from Candlewood’s Boat Patrol. The RRA crew and I went over it immediately on Sept. 30th.
A demonstration was made of an oil & gasoline spill soak up pad. Placed atop the spill in the lake it absorbs no water, removes the spill without becoming wet and disposes of it as dry waste. Janice Rumbaugh won one in a drawing and donated it to our Boat Patrol for evaluation. Janice also won $67 in the 50/50 drawing.
We made the last payments on our 2006 one ton dump truck and 2006 4X4 pickup truck. We have no further equipment loans, just the pools & roads remainder which is at $730,672 at present.
We are up to four new homes underway this year, some looking at our lots for sale bought existing homes or are planning new ones instead.
Maintenance did extensive underground drainage, stone, and cold patch repairs to the clubhouse parking lot.
Our weed harvester & security patrol boat were put away for the winter.
The number of new 2011 RRA Members having paid their $500 New Member Impact Fee in full already is approaching 60.
Three office trees were removed from the front yard before they hit the office (again) or fell into Rt. 6. All three were split in the trunk areas.
Lots of leaves, lots of rain, we’re still raking & mulching as conditions allow.
