General Manager’s Report # 219
Gary R. Phillips, October 16, 2008

The weed harvester, security boat & swimming pools are now winterized for the season.  Our guys are also trimming back a large number of trees that lean over the roadways to clear the way for future ditching projects.  Our chipper got a workout!

Next the crew will be pulling the lake markers as the lake is scheduled to begin dropping on Monday, Nov. 3.

The 2009 budget proposes closing the concession stand on days in May-June and August-September that schools are in session as well as closing ONE WEEKDAY of each week.  Suggestions for which day to close will be welcomed at the office.

A dozen years ago we had fifteen pop machines around the Association.  Pepsi always did outsell Coke at least 2 to 1 out here.  The 2008 results have been less than hoped for.  From Memorial Day thru Labor Day, our six troublesome machines produced only $670 for the RRA.  That barely pays the electricity.

I am considering simply selling pop from the concession stand once again only when it is open and eliminating these troublesome units.  Input from the membership on that issue would be welcome as well.

Collections are a little tougher this year as one might imagine but we are clear on 1,209 accounts with 1,994 lots at this point in time.

Seven RRA representatives attended the OLCA meeting at Lake Buckhorn last month.  Twelve lakes were present but several of our former OLCA lakes in Indiana have formed an Indiana Association and thoughts are when meeting at Ohio lakes near the border, we may get both states to attend.  We may also have some future meetings at the Indiana lakes.

Topics covered included collections, OLCA benefits, workers’ compensation, legal issues, forming a political action committee to push for lakes rights, forcing tax sales on vacant properties, dam repairs at Hide-A-Way Hills, association insurances, U.S. Bank offered services in H.O.A. unsecured project loans, and Aqua Doc’s water management services.
